The other day I went to go visit Chancellor State College which is the school I will be working at. How exciting! I was getting pumped and excited to meet my class and teacher but change of plans of course. The year 6 students had field day at the uni(university of the sunshine coast) so I didn't get to see them. Hopefully I can meet my teacher for a drink (hot or cold) some time before the next term starts. The students will be on their winter break soon so I know they will be jolted with energy. My principal was really nice and gave us a warm welcoming to his school and community. It's a good thing I bought that cool hat because it is compulsory for students as well as teachers to wear wide-brimmed hats outside on school grounds as part as sun safety. I am hoping I can get a Chancellor hat just like the students because I would wear that everyday.
Finally today was my last day of classes at the uni! I have a better idea of how the Australian education system works and it is so much better than the U.S system. Why we don't adapt to their system is beyond me. For my teachers that are reading this I would love to share how different and better the Australian curriculum is. Today we also had a quiz on the book that I didn't finish and about the education system. Of course I didn't finish the book because 1) It was boring and 2) There was definitely not enough time. In fact I am glad I didn't finish because there was only one question on the test from the book and it was so generic.
The picture I have attached is a picture of my four other Chancellor colleagues. Four of us will be teaching year 6 and one will be teaching special education and coming in and out of all of our classes. The other picture is actually what our school looks like. The schools out here are all one floor. No high-rises. It is sweet because it looks like a resort and the facilities are all new and kid-friendly.

The school looks like a vocation resort
ReplyDeleteHi Kevin! I'm anxious to hear more about the Australian vs. US schools. When you mentioned about the lesson plans already done for you, I was curious. (I know, I know, it's not my place to give you assignments anymore, but I'd sure love to know! ) Enjoy your trip to the OUTBACK.
